More Fans More Drama

With Fairly OddParents: A New Wish hitting Netflix, there are more fans: Yay!

But that also means more drama. Lol. Already not looking forward to that (especially since the server I'm in for FOP has gotten very quiet t-t).

The topic on my mind at the moment is a few Tumblr posts I've seen complaining about people making more fan content for Peri and Dev and what not over the main character Hazel.

I can't speak for anyone else, but most of the fun of fan works is being transformative.

The entire show is about Hazel and her working through her issues and problems and life.

If I want content about Hazel, I'll just...watch the show?

It's the same reason I don't often write about canon couples in my shipping. Ex, in Hazbin Hotel--I love Charlie and Vaggie, but they're the canon pairing in the show. In fandom, it's more fun to explore Charlastor and what not.

Meanwhile, Peri and Dev are the characters who have issues not fully explored by the show. Peri is a legacy character with a lot of background from the original show that can get tied into the plot. His relationship with Dev in the show isn't great, so it's comforting to write fluff (or even more angst).

I want to explore his relationship with Irep.

There's just more to think about and tackle with Peri and Dev.

Hazel's an amazing character and I love her, but I have no idea what to write about when it comes to her. Lol.

Anyway, those are my random thoughts for the moment I wanted to share but no longer wish to post on places like Tumblr or Bluesky where drama can happen. XD

I think you not only hit it with Peri being a returning character with SO MUCH to fill in with how he interacts with other returning characters, but Dev overall has a lot of complicated emotions that just never get explored (or is so limited that it's a lil frustrating). like, even his and hazel's friendship gets to sit backseat unless it's a plot relevant ep. Dev and Peri also got shafted infinitely harder so ofc people are gonna write a whole load of 'what-ifs' and their own goofy projection stuff about what wasn't shown.
(and lmao... even when people do create art surrounding hazel, it inevitably comes back around to her focusing on other characters issues... RIP girl was sorta characterised hard like that)
at the end of the day it'll be the usual generalised fandom complaint that there isn't enough 'content', rinse repeat lol... just seems more of an evil constant these days. :'D wish people could just try to make the things they wanna see instead of pointing fingers.

Yes! That right there. Everyone would be so much happier. T-T If you want to see more stuff featuring Hazel, make it!

I've seen a lot of cute Hazel art, so they clearly aren't looking hard enough if you ask me. Lol.
