Tron: Give it some time, man.
Jan. 19th, 2013 12:00 amSo, was browsin' through the Tron: Uprising tag (love that place), and over the past few months I've noticed a trend...specifically, one of the biggest complaints about the show I've seen from folks is that, to paraphrase:
"Nothing is happening. It's still status quo. Where's this Uprising thing?"
And my only response is:
The underground movement the show is discussing/Beck is leading is still going on during Tron: Legacy...20 Real Time years later.
I'm certainly not surprised that Beck hasn't gotten very far yet--he's only been at it for, what? A few Whatever-Grid-Time-Equivelent-is-to-Months (Maybe a year)? That's not long at all for a complete overthrowing of a government system.
I'd be more thrown off if there HAD been a huge uprising or rebellion already in the series.
I think it's great they're handling the time-frame realistically, even if it just means the show can keep going for a few seasons. If they wrap everything up in the first season with a full blown revolution--the show ends. It has to. In Legacy we've established CLU crushes the revolution/uprising/rebellion and stays in full power. So, the sooner we get to the big-push battle with CLU, the sooner everything has to end and go under again.
Last I checked, we were all hoping for more of the series, and this is how we get there.
I'd rather take things slow, and give us more time to deal with Tron, Beck, Paige & life on the Grid in Argon & Purgos. It's been amazing so far, and I've loved every minute.
And there has been character & plot development. Compare Beck from Episode 1 to any of the recent episodes. He's thinking more about what he's doing, he's got more concern for juggling two lives, and his fighting style has grown immensely since his first appearance. He's learning & growing, and you can see his path to becoming the leader Tron is hoping he'll be.
We have plenty of time to get to the big stuff, the world changing stuff-let's jut give the series the time it needs to get there at the right moment.
